Grass rewards: what points are and why earnings are not guaranteed

Grass rewards are not a cash balance that rises predictably whenever a computer stays online. Grass records several kinds of contribution: Uptime Points for making a connection available, Network Points when that connection actually carries requests, referral commissions, bonuses and tier progress. A later event may distribute GRASS or USDC to eligible participants, but dashboard points have no permanent exchange rate.

Grass rewards begin with points versus assets

Grass Points are internal accounting units. They represent participation but are not transferable tokens, cannot be sold directly and have no official enduring price. GRASS is an on-chain token exposed to market volatility. USDC is a stablecoin that may be used for certain distributions. Moving from an internal score to either asset requires a defined event, an eligible account and, where required, a valid claim.

This rules out the most tempting calculation: multiplying every dashboard point by an assumed token price. A past airdrop can provide a historical ratio, but cannot bind a future event. What Uptime Points measure

Uptime Points record periods in which a supported client is connected and makes its internet connection available. A powered-on laptop is not enough if the client is frozen, signed out or unable to reach the service. Client multipliers can affect this score. In documentation available in August 2026, Desktop operates at 2x, Android at 3x and the Chrome extension at the 1x base rate. These factors apply to Uptime Points; they do not create bandwidth demand.

Referral commissions and one-off bonuses also enter this side of the ledger. Two users with equal online hours can therefore show different totals. To compare devices fairly, separate points generated by your own connection from invitation commissions and campaign bonuses. Otherwise a large referral tree can look like unusually productive hardware. Treat the dashboard as a statement with several sources, not one undifferentiated number.

How Network Points are allocated

Network Points arise when Grass actually routes web requests through a participant’s connection. The official guide describes a daily pool of one million Network Points shared in proportion to bandwidth contributed. In its example, if the network processes 100,000 GB and one node supplies 10 GB, that node represents 0.01% of use and receives about 100 points. It is a share of a changing pool, not fixed payment per gigabyte.

Demand varies by geography, IP quality and time, while aggregate network usage also changes. A fast fibre line may remain available yet receive little work in a crowded or low-demand location. Multiple clients behind one router do not create demand; Grass says devices on the same Wi-Fi share rewards. VPN use to manipulate location is prohibited and can damage eligibility.

Why the two point types move differently

An account can collect steady Uptime Points while Network Points remain low. Usually Grass recognised availability but routed little traffic through the connection. The reverse can occur during strong local demand even if the device was not online all day. The columns answer different questions: was the connection available, and was it used?

Do not diagnose either figure from one day. Compare at least a week and note client updates or network changes. If uptime falls to zero, investigate sleep settings, connectivity and the application. Referral percentages and milestone bonuses

The current programme credits a referrer with 20% of direct referrals’ Uptime Points, 10% from the second level and 5% from the third. These are not Network Points or a percentage of another person’s future tokens. An invited user receives 5,000 Uptime Points after 100 valid hours, while the direct referrer receives 2,500 at that milestone. The official guide says 20/10/5 commissions do not depend on reaching 100 hours.

Inactive invitations contribute nothing. Duplicate accounts, self-referrals and fabricated traffic are not sustainable optimisation and can trigger enforcement. Publishers should disclose their benefit. Our Grass referral guide explains attribution, levels and practical limits.

What tiers include and exclude

Tiers rank participation using eligible Uptime Points. Grass states that Network Points and referral commissions are excluded from tier progression. A large total can therefore coexist with a modest rank because the figures measure different things. Thresholds and bonuses may be revised, making the current official table more reliable than old screenshots.

A high tier is not money owed. It is programme status that may qualify for a campaign under separate rules. Spending solely to chase rank reverses the economics: power, hardware and data are certain costs while distribution is conditional. Profit can only be calculated from assets received.

Epochs are records, not payment dates

An epoch is a measurement window used to organise points, snapshots and rule changes. Its end does not announce an airdrop, conversion ratio or claim date. A separate notice must specify the asset, eligible period, allocation and deadline.

Keep records by epoch rather than relying on a lifetime total. Note client, connection, online hours and each point category. This helps distinguish service issues from policy changes. Date screenshots because similar totals may have been calculated under different multipliers.

Distributions in GRASS or USDC

Rewards Program terms revised July 3, 2026 contemplate distributions in GRASS or USDC. Grass controls eligibility, quantity, timing and the claim window. Availability, connection quality, geography and bandwidth actually used are relevant factors, not individual promises. Age and jurisdiction restrictions apply.

The terms identify app.grass.io/dashboard as the official location for receiving or claiming rewards. Using a VPN to bypass geographic restrictions can lead to permanent disqualification and loss of an allocation. Start from the official site, read event terms and verify every wallet request. Ignore direct messages and pages offering early access.

Airdrop One is history, not a forecast

The first airdrop began October 28, 2024 and allocated 100 million GRASS to more than two million users, according to the Foundation. It proves participation records were used in a real distribution, not that a permanent points-to-token formula exists. That event had its own snapshots, categories and thresholds.

Claim windows matter. Someone eligible who did not connect a wallet in time may not receive the same treatment later. Old URLs can become irrelevant while malicious copies remain. Check current Foundation pages, never reveal a seed phrase and do not pay anyone promising to recover an expired allocation.

A cautious way to value Grass rewards

Before distribution, the prudent value of points in a personal budget is zero. This does not predict they will remain worthless; it prevents conditional rewards from financing certain expenses. After receipt, use the net amount, an executable market price, fees, tax treatment and operating costs.

Compare setups by net reward per additional hour and unit of cost, not gross points. A laptop already used for work may beat a desktop kept on solely for Grass.   • Attributing referral points to a device.
  • Confusing uptime multipliers with paid traffic.
  • Judging Network Points from one day.
  • Ignoring electricity, data, fees and tax.
  • Expecting full rewards from multiple clients on one connection.
  • Reading a tier as money owed.
  • Using a VPN to bypass restrictions.
  • Opening claim links from private messages.

Checklist before calling a reward income

  1. Identify uptime, network use, referral or bonus.
  2. Confirm the epoch and rules.
  3. Find an official distribution announcement.
  4. Read country, age and claim requirements.
  5. Enter through the official dashboard.
  6. Count only assets actually received.
  7. Subtract power, data, equipment, fees and tax.
  8. Do not budget with a hoped-for token price.
  9. Verify every wallet signature.
  10. Keep enough history for fair comparisons.

Grass rewards are a layered accounting system, not a money counter. Uptime Points, Network Points, referrals and tiers describe separate parts of participation. An event may convert qualifying contribution into GRASS or USDC under specific terms. Read every category separately, verify official announcements and calculate net profit only after assets arrive and costs are deducted.
