Grass on Windows: how to earn rewards with a PC

Grass on Windows lets a user share the unused portion of an internet connection through a desktop application running in the background. It is not mining: the computer does not solve cryptographic calculations and no GPU is required. The node relays requests for publicly available web data, while the network measures both connection availability and bandwidth that is actually used. Grass Points may contribute to later token or USDC distributions, but they are not guaranteed income.

Grass’s August 2026 setup documentation presents the desktop app as the primary option for Windows, macOS and Linux. On Windows, the desktop client applies a 2x multiplier to Uptime Points compared with the Chrome extension’s base rate. The more important rule is that rewards are capped per internet connection. Running the desktop app and extension behind the same router does not double points and can cause connection conflicts.

How to install Grass on Windows from the correct source

Start at the official Grass download page. Download the Windows installer, complete the normal installation and sign in to the intended account. No port forwarding, router modification or wallet is required to begin. Once launched, the application registers the node and reports its state in the dashboard. Synchronization may take a few minutes, so refresh the dashboard and confirm that the system-tray process is still active before reinstalling.

Avoid installers delivered in direct messages, unofficial repositories or sponsored advertisements imitating the project. Crypto-related applications are natural targets for phishing and malware. Check the domain, Windows publisher information and file path. If SmartScreen or antivirus software raises a warning, do not disable protection blindly. Return to the official source and verify the release. Requests for a seed phrase, private key or advance deposit are inconsistent with Grass’s documented setup.

Desktop app or Chrome extension

The desktop app generally suits a Windows computer that remains online when the browser is closed. Grass currently assigns it a 2x Uptime Points multiplier, while the extension operates at the 1x base rate. That does not mean the app automatically creates twice the economic value. Uptime Points measure availability; Network Points depend on bandwidth the network actually routes, geographical demand and connection quality.

Use one Grass client on a given internet connection. When moving from the extension to desktop, disable or remove the extension before testing stability. Running both can produce inconsistent states, disconnections and confusing point records. Two Windows PCs behind the same router are not two independent connections for this purpose. A meaningful comparison requires separate internet connections, rather than several devices sharing one public address.

Uptime Points and Network Points measure different contributions

The current Grass Points system has two categories. Uptime Points accrue when a device stays connected and makes bandwidth available; some referral and milestone bonuses also use this category. Network Points are awarded when the connection is actually selected to fulfill web requests. A Windows node can therefore maintain excellent uptime without receiving an equal amount of Network Points every day.

Grass documents a fixed pool of one million Network Points per day, distributed according to bandwidth contribution. Regional demand, stability, availability and recent network use affect a node’s share. No Windows setting can force the network to send traffic. Tutorials promising to manufacture points through VPNs, duplicate clients or repeated IP changes confuse availability with demand and may trigger anti-abuse controls rather than improve the result.

Should the PC stay on all day?

Longer online time can increase eligible uptime, but it does not make running a computer solely for Grass profitable. If the machine already operates for work, study, a home server or another purpose, marginal cost may be low. Do not estimate electricity from the power supply rating or GPU specification. Measure actual wall draw during the normal workload, multiply average watts by additional hours and apply the local kWh price. A laptop at idle can consume much less than a gaming desktop, although keeping its battery continuously full may increase wear. The relevant figure is the extra cost caused by keeping the system available, not the entire cost of a computer that would have been on anyway.

Improving uptime without weakening Windows

Reliable uptime comes from a stable connection, deliberate sleep settings, a working startup path and managed updates. Do not disable Windows Update or prevent every restart. Schedule maintenance windows, verify that Grass starts after sign-in and accept short interruptions rather than leaving the operating system unpatched. On a laptop, test what happens when the lid closes and battery-saving mode activates. On a desktop, inspect router restarts, weak Wi-Fi and a stalled tray process. Ethernet removes one variable but is not mandatory when wireless connectivity is stable. Avoid scripts that restart the application continuously: they can conceal a client conflict or network problem. Record the time of a disconnect and compare the dashboard, Windows Event Viewer and router state before automating a workaround.

Fixing connecting, zero-point and missing-node states

If the application remains on “connecting,” confirm general internet access and platform status, close any Grass browser extension and restart the desktop client once. Check the Windows clock, firewall and any active proxy or VPN. Do not immediately create another account or install duplicate clients. If the node is missing from the dashboard, allow synchronization time, sign out and back in, and verify that the app and dashboard use the same account. Reinstallation should come after these checks.

Uptime Points increasing while Network Points remain low is not necessarily a fault. Availability and real bandwidth usage are separate metrics, so region and traffic demand can produce uneven results. If neither category changes for many hours, record the timestamp, app version, dashboard state and network conditions before contacting support. Privacy, the public IP and device separation

Grass states that a node relays encrypted packets to public web servers without accessing personal files, passwords or browsing history. This does not remove every trust decision: traffic still exits through the connection’s public IP and the user installs third-party software. Read current terms and privacy documentation, maintain Windows security and understand which network is being shared. For a cautious trial, use a standard Windows account and preferably a device that does not store seed phrases, wallet backups or highly sensitive documents. Separation does not imply that Grass is malicious; it limits impact if software is misconfigured or a later incident occurs. Keep antivirus, firewall and operating-system patches enabled. Download updates only through official channels. A VPN is not an automatic privacy solution and may interfere with location, reputation or platform rules.

How to judge rewards without inventing a return
